For improving the mass rearing efficiency of the sorghum plant bug, Stenotus rubrovittatus and the rice leaf bug, Trigonotylus caelestialium, the nymphal developments of the two bugs on wheat seedlings at differing day-ages seeding were compared. In small scale tests, the emergence rate was higher in S. rubrovittatus and the forewing length of the emerged adults was longer in bugs fed on 1-day-old seedlings than in those fed on 3- and 6-day-old seedlings. The results suggested that use of 1-day-old wheat seedlings instead of the 5–7-day-old seedlings generally used for mass rearing would increase the mass rearing efficiency of the two bugs.
