Abstract
Kobayashi and Nagata (2019) conducted a nationwide survey on “food in emergencies” for home
economics teachers. Practical issues revealed in the survey were “insufficient home economics class time,”
“not included in the curriculum,” and “insufficient teaching materials and tools.” The purposes of this
study are to modularize of “food in emergencies” education class in junior high school home economics,
to create and develop an annual instruction plan, model instruction plan, and teaching materials, and to
verify their usefulness from a survey of teachers.
In Study 1, classes were improved to reflect the results of the nationwide survey and the New Course
of Study. Then, we created and developed an annual instruction plan that includes the modules, a model
learning instruction plan for lessons that combine each module, worksheets, and presentation materials.
In Study 2, we conducted a questionnaire survey and an interview survey with home economics
teachers. As a result of the surveys, it was found that the created and developed annual teaching plan, the
model learning teaching plan, and the developed teaching materials were generally useful regardless of
the teaching history of the teacher.
