Abstract
This paper analyzes materials contained in the archive of the journal “Kateika” published as a
project to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Japan Association of Home Economics Teachers
(ZKK), using the journal “Kateika Kyouiku”, Fumiyoshi Oshima’s old documents, and Tamako Sikanai’s
old materials. Details of the establishment of ZKK have been clarified. From around March 1949, the
“National Federation of Home Economics Leaders”, home economics leaders of elementary, junior
high, high school, and university began to conduct research voluntarily, but when the Japan Society of
Home Economics was established at the end of October 1949, elementary school teachers were unable
to become members. And ZKK was established to create another organization. In November 1949,
a petition for independence from the vocational subject of junior high school was found in the journal
“Kateika” archive, which dealt with the problem of junior high school home economics in parallel with
the problem of elementary school home economics. From January to March 1950, many petitions for
preservation of home economics in elementary schools with the name of ZKK were submitted to the
Ministry of Education. Before the establishment of ZKK, it was heavily involved in collecting petitions.
