Abstract

This paper presents that the electric contact conditions of the propeller and the hull of a ship give different effects on the hull corrosion.
The hull of the towboat “Asasio” had been seriously attacked by corrosion. This corrosion attack was considered to be caused by a potential rise of the hull according to a certain electric contact of the propeller and the hull under the service. However, the contact was gradually reduced in course of the service. Besides an effective paint was used for the hull and a number of Zinc plates was put on the hull. Accordingly the corrosion attack has been minimized.
