Practical Application of Speed Control Method of A. C. Motors to Ship Winches

Abstract

The reasons why we want to use pole-change type motors for ship winches are not only because of (1) their cheaper cost, but also (2) easy maintenance of induction motors depending on that they have no commutators. But, unfortunately we have practically had many cases of burning trouble of pole-change winch motors. This is, the problem which requires fundamental study.
I should like to propose an idea to apply the Speed Control Method of my new invention to Ship Winches. And as I have been able to get the test result of the practical application of my invention to Dredger Winches, I should like to inform the test report, together with its theory. In the theory and the practice, we use wound rotor type induction motors for Ship Winches.
