Abstract

Recently, a concept of the information system for structural damages of ships has been proposed by the authors. In this concept, not only the information of ship hull structures but also the information about damages obtained by the inspection are stored in the database, and the evaluation such as fatigue life of the structure is carried by the system. For the efficient use of such system, the inspection with high detectability of damages and a convenient recording system are necessary. In this paper, a ship inspection supporting system by using a portable (wearable) computer and virtual reality technique has been proposed. The proposed system assists instruction of the process of the inspection and the efficient recording of the detected damages during the inspection.
