Abstract
We report a rare case of inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) of the large–intestine associated with ulcerative colitis. A 78–year–old woman treated 10 years for ulcerative colitis was diagnosed elsewhere as having a 25 mm rectal polyp not confirmed by biopsy. We conducted total proctocolectomy with ileoanalcanal anastomosis. Histological examination confirmed active ulcerative colitis and a granulomotous IFP with inflammatory cell infiltration. This is, to our knowledge, only the third case of large–intestine IFP associated with ulcerative colitis reported in the Japanese literature.
