Introduction: We report our experience with transumbilical single-incision laparoscopic intragastric resection for gastric submucosal tumor located at the upper third of the stomach.
Patients and Methods: During recent 2 years, we performed above procedure in 4 patients. The mean age was 66 years. There were 3 males and one female. Initially, single-incision with gastrotomy was made at the umbilicus. Partial resection including the tumor was performed using a linear stapler. The resected specimen was directly retrieved from the umbilical incision.
Results: Laparoscopic intragastric resection was successful completed in all patients. The mean operation time and blood loss were 101.7min and 8ml. One patient was seen a postoperative intragastric bleeding form the stapled line with a successful endoscopic hemostasis. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 8 days. The mean maximum tumor diameter of resected specimen was 32mm. The pathological findings were gastrointestinal stromal tumor in 3 patients and leiomyoma in one, respectively. There were no recurrences or metastases during a mean follow-up period of 17.5 months.
Conclusion: Transumbilical single-incision laparoscopic intragastric resection is feasible and safe with careful procedures for bleedings from gastric mucosa or staple line.
