Abstract

Functions of man and machine in view of designing man-machine systems are compared. Man has high adaptability and flexibility, while for programed processes machine has greater sensitivity, channel capacity, memory, speed, acuracy, reliability' continuity, etc. Human performance is distinguished from that of machine with respect to variability, individual difference and personality. The mechanism of error correction is also different from each other. Since man and machine are of heterogenous nature, it is important to design proper interrelation among them.
