Abstract

Background: Remote monitoring of Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) improves patient safety. However, operating such remote monitoring systems (RMS) has increased workload of medical staffs. Biotronik EHR DataSync® software supports medical staffs by integrating CIEDs information and data using international standards. The software has a potential to enhance clinical usefulness, reduce errors and lighten the workload. The aim of this study was to develop the automatic electronic medical record (EMR) system for CIEDs and to assess its effectiveness.

Methods: We self-built the EMR system that automatically stores varied numericals and data from the RMS and its programmer. We examined accuracy of the automatic EMR system and reduction of the workload.

Results: A total of 3,011 data was successfully collected and integrated, and the success rates of data collection were 99.8%. Moreover, the automatic EMR reduced 3 hours and 55 minutes per year of the workload for dealing CIEDs.

Conclusion: The self-built automatic EMR system could integrate CIEDs data successfully. This could help to reduce the workload of medical staffs..
