In Japan the wild hybrid between the two indigenous pheasants Phasianus (versicolor group) and Syrmaticus soemmerringii is exceedingly scarce. Gives five authentic records. Some specimens show the plumage of Phasianus slightly more while others have more Syrmaticus pattern. They were all taken in the northern part of Honshu. Mr. K. Kobayashi's specimen taken in January, 1951 is the only one existing among collections in Japan.
