We report a case of osteonecrosis of the jaw that developed a fter the administration of denosumab and radium-223 following dental implant placement. The patient had undergone implant placement at a nearby dental clinic and was later diagnosed with multiple bone metastases from prostate cancer, after which denosumab and radium-223 were administered. The patient was referred to our department because of subsequent osteonecrosis of the jaw. A partial mandibulectomy, tooth extraction and implant removal were performed under general anesthesia. 18 months after surgery, the patient was doing well with no bone exposure.
Since the administration of bone resorption inhibitors may be commenced during implant maintenance, it is important to pay close attention to the medication status in patients with osteoporosis or malignant tumors.
