Aneurysmal bone cysts of the jaw are rare. Those of the mandibular symphysis are extremely rare.
Recently, we diagnosed an aneurysmal bone cyst in the midline of the mandible in a 29-year-old man in whom an asymptomatic cystic lesion was noted accidentally during routine X-ray examination.
Radiographic examination revealed an ill-defined ovoid radiolucent area in the midline of the mandible. The lesion was enucleated and curetted under local anesthesia.
Histopathologically, the lesion consisted of fibrous connective tissue stroma containing numerous capillaries, and eosinophilic calcified particles were scattered in some regions.
