Abstract

The presence of lymph node metastasis plays a predominant role in determining the prognosis of a patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the factors associated with lymph node metastasis. In this study, histological and immunohistological analyses were performed to evaluate the clinical and pathological factors which are important in cervical lymph node metastasis. Factors such as tumor size, mode of invasion, stage of invasion, cellular response and distribution of extracellular matrix were found to be significantly related to cervical node metastasis.
