A case of localized amyloidosis of the hard palate is reported. A71-year-old man visited our department complaining of bleeding from a tumor of the palatal mucosa. A biopsy specimen was taken from the tumor and it was diagnosed as amyloidosis. Detailed clinical examinations were performed to determine the type of amyloidosis. However, there were no signs suggesting that he was suffering from any associated disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or that diseases affecting other organs such as the thyroid, heart, kidney, liver, skin, stomach or bone marrow were involved. Based on this evidence, we judged that the lesion was isolated. The tumor was resected surgically and the defect was restored with an atelocollagen dermal substitute. Immunohistochemical study revealed that the fibrils accumulated in the tumor were AL (Aλ) amyloid protein.
