Recently, the results of treatment in patients with chronic renal failure have improved owing to progress in hemodialysis. Consequently, there is expected to be an increase in patients with head and neck cancer complicated by chronic renal failure. We performed radiation therapy, surgery and chemotherapy using cis-diamminedichloroplutinum (CDDP) and 5-fluorouracil ( 5-FU) to treat tongue cancer in a 60-yearold man with chronic renal failure who was undergoing hemodialysis. Here we present our results and discuss some problems in treatment. Close attention should be paid to unusual tumor growth when performing anticancer therapy for malignancy in patients undergoing hemodialysis for chronic renal failure.
