Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a rare odontgenic tumor resembling ameloblastic fibroma, but showing inductive changes that lead to the formation of dentine and enamel. The tumor occurs primarily in young patients. The molar region of the mandible is more often affected than the other sites.
We present a case of ameloblastic fibro-odontoma in a 13-year-old boy. He was referred to us because of a swelling with pain in the molar region of the left side of the mandible. Radiographically, the lesion showed a multilocular radiolucency with numerous calcification foci from the impacted second molar to the third molar region of the left side of the mandible. Histologically, the tumor was composed of cellular connective tissue with proliferating odontogenic epithelium in the form of strands and islands, and dentinoid and tooth-like hard tissue. Enucleation of the tumor was performed under general anesthesia, and there has been no recurrence as of 3 years 8 months after operation.
