A Psychological Study on "Intensive Group Experiences" Applied to a Sport Team

Abstract

The author tried to analyze and to make clear the effectiveness of "Intensive Group Experiences" appyling to an university basketball team (CUC team) as a part of the program of its training camp. Intensive Group Experiences was held for five days and four nights with eight sessions. Some results are as follows: 1)Though the motivation of team members to participate in the Intensive Group Experiences was low, the interpersonal communication was increased and activated. The CUC team had developed on its openness of communication, understanding and commitment of group goals, mutual confidence and mutual support by the experiences of Intensive Group. 2)As the effects of the Intensive Group Experiences, a morale of the CUC team was significantly increased, but no difference was found in devotion for membership of the team. All other teams which did not have the experiences of Intensive Group, showed no difference neither on the morale nor on the devotion for membership of the teams. 3)The participants of the Intensive Group Experiences increased their positive attitudes to the team or group goals. It gave high productivity to the CUC team and they had obtained better records in the Basketball League.
