Abstract
We report a case of chronic inguinal pain after mesh hernioplasty successfully treated by ilioinguinal neurectomy. The patient was a 65-year-old man.
He had undergone a mesh hernioplasty by the mesh plug method in another hospital and experienced chronic groin pain after surgery. Conservative pain treatment was not effective, and after 6 months, he was admitted to our hospital and both ilioinguinal neurectomy and hernia repair were performed under the diagnosis of ilioinguinal neuralgia with reccurence of inguinal hernia. The chronic groin pain was quenched immediately after the ilioinguinal neurectomy, and the patient's quality of life was dramatically improved.
The wide prevalence of mesh hernioplasty and chronic groin pain after surgery has been noted recently. Surgical treatment may sometimes be required when conservative pain treatment is not effective.
