An analytical investigation is presented for the relation between the structural reliability and the safety factor.
The solution is expressed in term of applied loads of known probability of occurence and normal distributions of failure stresses, which are assumed to be known from prior tests for given types of structures, loads and materials.
The results of numerical computation on some tylpical cases are presented on graphs for a case in which the allowable stress is assumed to be met or exceed by 99 percent of the materials supplied by the producers.
