Cytological findings of a case of elastofibroma dorsi are described. A 58-year-old female presented with a slowgrowing mass in the left subscapular region. The excised lesion measuring 6×4×3cm was an ill-defined white elastic mass. Scraping cytological specimens showed benign-appearing spindle cells and light-green stained, bead string-like or globular structures, which were intensely stained with elastic fiber staining. Ultrastructurally, the structures were composed of electron-dense materials with cores of thin filaments. The spindle cells showed fibroblastic differentiation with intermediate filaments.
Immunohistochemically, the cells were positive for vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin and desmin, indicating mvnfihrnhlastir or fibroblastic differentiation.
