Abstract

Evapotranspiration from forest, which is the sum of transpiration and rainfall interception is estimated in Japan by the heat budget method. The annual amount ranges 600-700 mmy-1 in northern Japan and 800-900 mmy-1 in southern Japan. These values correlate highly with the equilibrium evaporation, and are 1.1-1.5 times as large as the evaporation from shallow lakes in Japan.
