We herein propose the usability evaluation method that is able to introduce into the process of interface design in manufacturers that often depend on qualitative method. The proposed method is characterized by the addition of the quantitative method to the conventional qualitative method. We selected the rough set theory and the interval AHP as quantitative method. It ispossible to extract cognitive advantages and disadvantages by using the method.
In addition, we considered and verified the usefulness of the proposed method through a case study involving five digital musicplayers. As a result, samples of five digital music players were divided into two groups of high rank and low rank based on the resultsof evaluation. Furthermore, we calculated rough sets using the table of cognitive parts of the digital music players. Finally, weextracted some cognitive factors that contribute to or disturb usability of those machines.
