Rimpei Kikuti : A New Way of Looking at High Speed Stel, Though the existing standard must by all means be observed, it can not be considerd permanently right; therefore, it is necessaTy to scrutinize it in the new light and revise it.
The existing standard for high speed steel, especially in case of "high cobalt high speed steel", the following revisions should be made in order to make it possess the greatest cutting power :-
(1) The amount of vanadium must be decreased as that of cobalt is increased.
(2) The amount of carton must be decreased as that of cobalt is incresed. (Consequently "high cobalt high speed steel " is termed "low carbon high speedsteel ", )
These results have been obtained from the New-point that the real tools must be measured by its cutting power, because the measurement by its hardness has mere referential value, judging from the fact that the edge of a blade at the cutting moment is heated in a considerably high degree though the measurement of hardnesi in normal temprature has been the subject in the study of high speed steel.
The theory for this newly discovered "low carbon high speed steel ", especialy the singularity as to the effect of its precipitation is now under investigation.
