The heat transfer coefficients α of some cutting fluids spreading radially over a flat plate through a nozzle are measured by the local heat transfer method. Tested fluids are three straight mineral oils, rape oil, petroleum, water and three sulphurized-chrorinated mineral oils. These data are expressed approximately by equations contained the Nusselt number, the Reynolds number and the Prandtle number, or non-dimension number involving the surface tension. The cooling properties of the fluids are discussed on α at the collided point through a nozzle and its average along the flow.
