Abstract
A model of a computer-adaptive controlled lathe work system has been constructed and experimented for a prototype of a higher-leveled automatic machining system, and conversational direct computer control (CDCC), one of the functions of the system, has been reported in the 1st report. In this report, the adaptive control function consisting of cutting force control and accuracy control, which is the other function of the system and connectedly operates with CDCC, is reported. Logics of both cutting force and accuracy control have been implemented as a computer software, and detectors including strain gages and thermocouples have been utilized and connected to the computer. As a result of experiments, cutting force control has automatically and stably selected feed rates in rough cutting, and accuracy control in finish cutting has reduced errors of workpiece diameters.
