In the surgical treatment of congenital biliary atresia, hepatic porto-enterostomy is an established technique for non-correctable cases which occupy the majority of this disease. The most common complication after the operation is ascending cholangitis. Since February 1970, several modifications of hepatic porto-enterostomy have been applied to prevent post-operative ascending cholangitis. In this paper, operative results of modifications of hepatic portoenterostomy for biliary atresia are studies and optimum time for radical operation is also discussed.
