Piglet, Experimental Model for Bronchial Stump Healing

Abstract

We studied the healing of bronchial stump by using the piglet (body weight : 7∿10kg). The right cranial bronchus of this animal, the tracheal bronchus, was used to create a bronchial stump. This technique enabled us to perform the operation without manipulation of pulmonary vessels and the pulmonary parenchyma. This technique was easy and safe and postoperative care was also relatively easy. The piglet seems to be useful in evaluating the healing of bronchial stump.
