Abstract
A nodular lesion (30×24mm) was detected in the left upper lobe of an 18-year-old woman in a mass survey at school. Transbronchial lung biopsy was erformed by bronchoscopy to sample the peripheral lesion in left B^<1+2>_b. The HE-stained biopsy specimen showed obvious eosinophilic granules in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells, therefore a diagnosis of granular cell tumor was made and tumorectomy performed. The resected specimen was covered with a thin capsule, was yellowish-gray in color, and was soft and elastic. Immunohistochemical examination suggested that the tumor was of neurogenic origin because S-100 protein and NSE were positive. Granular cell tumors of the trachea and bronchus are rare, and most of them occur in comparatively large bronchi up to the second order bronchus. The case reported here was extremely rare, since the tumor was found as a nodule on the chest roentgenogram, arose in a third order bronchus, and had a capsule.
