In recent years, extreme weather has made turfgrass management on golf courses more difficult, increasing the importance of soil aeration. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of soil aeration (an air supply treatment) on Zoysia matrella (L.) Merr. growth. Wagner pots (1/5000 a) were used to conduct a pot experiment from July to October 2024, and a non-aerated control was compared with an aerated treatment. Pots were harvested monthly, and dry weight, root length, number of secondary roots branching from primary roots, root activity, and root glucose content were measured. The aerated treatment showed increased dry weight in August and higher root activity than the non-aerated control. Furthermore, the number of secondary roots and root glucose content were higher in the aerated treatment than in the non-aerated control. These findings suggest that soil aeration enhances root physiological activity and promotes Zoysia matrella growth.
