Plasma thromboxane B2 (Tx B2) and β-thromboglobulin (β-TG) were measured in various peripheral vascular diseases; arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO), thromboangitis obliterans (TAO) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) etc. Their changes after reconstructive arterial surgery for occlusive disease were investigated.
The results obtained were as follows,
1) Among various peripheral arterial diseaes, ASO, TAO and AAA tended to show higher β-TG and Tx B2 values compared with healthy controls.
2) Acute arterial occulusion did not necessarily tend to show higher Tx B2 values.
3) Tx B2 was significantly elevated during operative and immediate postoperative periods in vascular reconstruction compared with preoperative value.
4) Serial measurement of Tx B2 is considered an useful tool for evaluation of the development of occlusive lesions rather than for the diagnosis of thrombosis.
