The microagiopathy in DM patients is related closely to their hypercoagulable state. Besides, the hyperfibrinogenemia and the increase of platelet aggregation are the main factors of hypercoagulable state.
The results of our investigation on the platelet functions of DM patients are as follows.
DM patients showed an definite increase in platelet aggregation as compared with normal adults, but DM patients with insulin therapy showed a significant decrease in platelet aggregation than normal adults.
On the other hand about the platelet volume measured by coulter counter, we couldn't find any difference between DM patients and normal adults.
We therefore conclude that the increase of platelet aggregation in DM is caused by the change of blood condition surrounding platelet lipids, for example.
