The plant agglutinin, Dolichos biflorus lectin, has been said to be a representative anti-A1 plant agglutinin.
However, a new blood group factor Wk which we have recently found has been shown to be very reactive on this Dolichos lectin.
It has also been revealed that N-acetyl-D-galactosamine is the very substance that occurs in the Wk factor and the A substance in common, and reacts on Dolichos lectin.
It has been disclosed that N-acetyl-D-galactosamine is not the A type determinant but is intimately related with the structure of the A substance.
It has been shown that Dolichos biflorus lectin is not the anti-A1 plant agglutinin but a lectin specifically reactive on N-acetyl-D-galactosamine.
Limma bean lectin has been shown to be in no way related with the Wk factor but to be a plant agglutinin specifically reactive only on the A substance.
