Anti-Yka was found in the serum of a patient with carcinoma of the colon. The reactions varied from±to 2+ according to the indirect antiglobulin test. The antibody was not denatured with 2-ME and was identified as IgG1. It did not react with AET-treated red blood cells nor was it neutralized by pooled serums. There was no reaction with HLA antigens or platelet antigens or absorption on pooled platelets.
A patient received 4 units of crossmatch-incompatible red blood cells but showed no obvious transfusion reaction. After transfusion, a direct antiglobulin test was negative and the eluate prepared from the patient's red blood cells contained no anti-Yka.
