The Japan Red Cross Blood Center tests Anti-HCV for screening in all of blood donors. The HCV-PHA Kit has been using for Anti-HCV screening since February 1991. The notification of HCV viremia is sent to the donor that showed anti-HCV high titer or s-GPT abnormal level. It is necesary to consult as the hepatitis C at an early stage and to prevent the another infection by blood transfusion.
We examined MATRIX-HCV as Anti-HCV supplemental test with blood donor specimens. It was compared with the RIBA-II and HCV-RNA by RT-PCR method. The performance of MARTIX-HCV showed almost same as RIBA-II. Although total agreement between MATRIX-HCV and RIBA-II was 81.8% (63/77), the discrepant cases were near the cutoff value and seemed to be depended on the reactibity of NS3 and NS4 reagion. All 30 HCV-RNA positive cases out of 61 blood donors showed positive by MATRIX-HCV.
