Abstract
We recently experienced,3 cases of serious cardiac arrhythmias observed after urologic operat ions.
First case was a 34 year old housewife who was seen with headache and chest oppression. Clinical data disclosed a ectopic pheochromocytoma and operation was done. Postoperative ECG showed frequent, multiform ventricular arrhythmias and A-V dissociation coincidentally. Xylocaine and potassium subsided in these arrhythmias. Cause of arrhythmias might be thought due to digitalis intoxication.
Second case was a urinary bladder cancer of 81 year old male, who received a total cystectomy with bilateral cutaneous ureterostomies. Postoperatively, he had a gastric dilatation and post-renal oliguria, then developed an auricular fibrillation. Digitalis cured of this arrhythmia.
Third case w as a 51 year old motorman who had a partial prostatectomy against benign prostatic hypertrophy. Postoperative use of epidural anesthesia for relieving pain caused a fall in blood pressure to inaudible levels, but vasoconstrictive agent fortunately raised blood pressure to normal levels. ECG after recovery of shock showed bigemini type ventricular arrythmias, which were disappeared in spontaneously.
Course and cause of 3 cases were reported and d iscussed on briefly.
