INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS ON PERPENDICULAR MAGNETIC RECORDING

  Perpendicular magnetic recording has been expected to be an effective measure for increasing the recording density for future recording systems. Many academic institutes and industrial companies have carried out research and development activities on perpendicular recording. Toshiba Corporation has also carried out intensive research and development activities for more than 10 years and exhibited several outputs, including its unique barium ferrite particulate perpendicular recording media. Practical utilization has been started for .the barium ferrite media. Further promotion of perpendicular recording development is necessary for magnetic recording industry to keep growing and to respond to future expansion to handle the volume of information to be stored.
