Abstract

Internet Archive was established in 1996 by Brewster Kahle. It is well known by its web archiving project, Wayback Machine, as well as archiving moving images, music, audio and texts including books. Wayback Machine archives more than 150 billion web pages from 50 million web sites since 1996. Books have been digitized using its own Scribe machine under the cooperation with libraries such as Boston Public Library, and now digitizing more that 1,000 books per day. Digitized books are distributed to children as on-demand books using Bookmobile. Kahle has been critical to the Google Book Search settlement, active in Orphan Works projects, and helping One Laptop Per Child (OLPC).
