Abstract

In the Japanese strabismus studies, which have over 50 years history, the recovery of binocular visual function has been emphasized, and the early treatment of the disease was advocated. Even at this time, many ophthalmologists do not operate strabismus in adult as they believe it is too late and patients of unilateral strabismus with decreased vision for the reason of early return back to the previous eye position due to too late treatment. On the other hand, there seems to be the tendency that meaningless orthoptics for children is performed thoughtlessly.
Mr. Terry Itoh , one of famous TV casters has received a strabismus surgery 3 years ago. The process of his operation has been broadcasted on television in detail how he was ophthalmologically checked and diagnosed, operation itself and follow-up documents after surgery. This time, I asked him to talk his suffer at before operation and impression of the operation he had. He talked that the strabismus patient is suffering from the appearance not a binocular vision. On receiving surgery, expectation to be cured was big so that the pain was ignored. After being operated a place of the activity spreads out more and he strongly felt why the earlier operation was not possible.
