Copepod plankton were collected in autumn of October 26 to November 1, 1979 and in winter of January 18 to January 26, 1980 at the fifteen stations covering whole area of the Seto Inland Sea.
The first and second dominant genera of copepods were identified. The copepod lipids were extracted, and the lipid class composition was analyzed at every station.
Considering the contents of wax esters among various lipid classes, it is apparent that there is an intimate relation with water depths, namely, the deeper the larger. There is also similar tendency in the relation with salinity.
Accordingly, the wax ester contents in lipids are affected by copepods, such as Calanus, Euchaeta, and Paracalanus, which live in rather deeper water with higher salinity from open sea.
