The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors affecting the discharge to home of Parkinson's disease patients admitted to the Community Comprehensive Care Unit. Sixty-six patients with Parkinson's disease admitted to the Regional Comprehensive Care Unit were divided into two groups: home and facility. Furthermore, their basic attributes including FIM at admission and Family Assistance Skills (FAS) were investigated retrospectively. Logistic regression analysis was used to extract factors influencing returning home, and higher scores on FIM problem solving (odds ratio: 1.95, 95% confidence interval: 1.22-3.12, p<0.01) and FAS (odds ratio: 2.74, 95% confidence interval: 1.52-4.93, p<0.01) were identified as factors promoting returning home. The results suggest the necessity of appropriately assessing not only the patient's own caregiving ability, but also that of family caregivers when supporting the return home of Parkinson's disease patients.
