IT IS IMPORTANT PROBLEMS THAT GENENATION AND ATTRACTION TRIPS TO A LARGE SHOPPING CENTER IN URBAN AREA HAVE SOME ADVERSE EFFECTS ON THE TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PAPER IS TO PROPOSE A COMPUTING METHOD FOR DETERMING DESIRABLE CAPACITY OF OFF-STREET PARKING AND TO CLARIFY THE RELATION AMONG THE PARKING VOLUME, PARKING DURATION AND PARKING CAPACITY. WE ANALYZE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PARKING CARS BEHAVIOR BY THE PLATE NUMBER SURVEY USING VTR CAMERA IN KANAZAWA URBAN AREA. THE RESULTS ARE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS. (1)THE DISTRIBUTION CURVE OF ATTRACTION TRIPS IS APPROXIMATED BY UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION. (2)THE DISTRIBUTION CURVE OF PARKING DURATION CAN BE APPROXIMATED BY ERLANG DISTRIBUTION COMBINED WITH A LONG DURATION AND A SHORT ONE.
