VARIOUS KINDS OF NEW UTILIZATIONS OF COMMERCIAL ZONES ARE INTRODUCED BY MAKING SHOPPING STREETS PEDESTRIAN MALLS. THE EVENT, WHICH IS ONE OF SUCH UTILIZATIONS, IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE DIVERSE ATTRACTIONS BY STOREKEEPERS. SO, THIS ARTICLE INVESTIGATES THE EVENTS PERFORMED ON SHOPPING MALLS AND STUDIES THEIR ROLES FOR THE MALLS THROUGH SURVEYS IN THE NIIGATA FURUMACHI MALL. THE RESULT SHOWS THAT THE STOREKEEPERS OF THE MALL CONSIDER THE EVENTS TO BE NECESSARY, AND MANY ACTIVITIES ARE ADDED ON SHOPPING MALL. IT IS GUESSED THAT THE EVENTS MAKE USE OF THE STREETS AS A KIND OF PLAZA IN THE COMMERCIAL ZONES.
