Abstract
By focusing on vacant houses regeneration activity in Nagano city, this study aims to clarify effective strategy of vacant houses regeneration management, as well as the relationship between vacant houses regeneration management and community regeneration. Through case study, following aspects are clarified: To activate and manage the area regeneration successfully, the target town should rediscover its vernacular potentials or add a new value, which is based on their own historical city environment. It is possible to attract private organizations to involve in the regeneration by offering financial and human-resource assistance. This research also points out that new resident fit into the community through four phases and they are able to activate the community effectively with the support gained from vacant house regeneration activities delivered by certain organization.
