Abstract

This study aims to investigate the characteristics of "latent shopping refugees"and factors of their occurrence. Using a questionnaire survey, we analyzed the shopping behavior of elderly people considering satisfactions at distance to and quality of the grocery store. The following are major conclusions; 1) Elderly people can be divided into 4 groups according to the degree of dissatisfaction and its types. 2) Latent shopping refugees are those who A) have little intention of long- walking or can't use long-range transportation measures and B) have no quality-satisfied stores in the range they can move with ease.3) People who can use large or many stores tend to get satisfied with store quality, and people who walk or bike to stores tend to feel dissatisfaction with the distance when it exceeds 775.6m.4) The proportion of these people differs between regions, depending on the locational environments of stores related to the zoning system.
