Abstract

In this study, we focused on lifelong learning facilities that are thought to create enjoyment and motivation for the elderly in four cities in Shikoku and evaluated the accessibility of cultural and physical education activities for the elderly under six scenarios, considering the population distribution in 2050, by conducting spatial analysis using GIS. The impact of reallocation of cultural and educational facilities to elementary and junior high schools and maintenance of public transportation (railroads and buses) on the opportunities for lifelong learning activities for the elderly was quantitatively demonstrated. The study also discussed on the regional characteristics of the four cities and identified measures that should be emphasized in each area.
