To the culture solution, which was purified by the adsorption procedure, treating the solution with Ca-phosphate, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn were added and the action of these heavy metals on the production of amylase and invertase in Aspergillus niger was examined. If either Fe or Zn was diminished in concentration, the production of the enzymes per weight unit of mycelium much decreased. Reduction of the amount of Cu and Mn caused no marked influence of the enzyme production, but the complete elimination of Mn caused its diminution. Addition of the heavy metals to the enzyme preparation had no direct influence on its activity.
