Abstract

Methods of obtaining the cytological material of Tradescantia in autumn and winter by the longday treatment in the warm house and of the prolongation of the flowering season by other procedure are described. A brief account in English on these methods is given in Cytologia Vol. 9, Nos. 2-3, pp. 352-255.
A clone of Tradescantia canaliculata RAFINESQUE (Japanese name “Murasaki-tuyu-kusa”) which is cultivated long since in this country has the chromosome number n=12, 2n=24. The derivatives of this clone did not show so many mutants as those derivatives of some other clones of T. canaliculata did in a few years in my culture. The latter came to us from New York Botanical Garden about ten years ago, and they have the chromosome number 2n=24+2 ff.
