The karyological studies were made on the fourteen species of mosses belonging to six genera. The metaphase, anaphase and heteropycnotic chromosomes in mitotic cells of gametophytes were observed. Chromosome numbers of the eight species, Hypopterygium fauriei, Campylium rufochryseum, Rhynchostegium polystictum, Entodon angustifolius, E. curvatirameus, E. viridulus, Plagiothecium splendens and P. sp. are reported for the first time by the present writers. Chromosomes numbers of two species, Hypopterygium japonicm and Plagiothecium silvaticum, are different from those reported by the previous workers and those of the remaining four species coincide with the number by the previous investigators. The intraspecific euploidy and aneuploidy were found in Hypopterygium fauriei and Plagiothecium silvaticum respectively. The euploid and aneuploid were confirmed through the comparison of the karyotypes of each taxon. By the comparison among karyotypes, the interspecific relation in every genus was also presumed.
