A left adrenal pheochromocytoma in a 58-year-old man appeared to be successfully extirpated with simultaneous removal of the left kidney after an 8-hour operation, although, at the end of the operation, there was discoloration of some of the intrabdominal organs possibly due to intraoperative shock. Renal and hepatic failure associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) became evident on the second postoperative day. The patient did not recover from that state and died 6 days after the operation. This case is considered to be one of intraoperative shocks followed by DIC in pheochromocytoma.
